Puyallup Homes for Sale

Today, Puyallup is a community of about 38,000 in population and 14 sq. miles in area.  It is home to the Puyallup Fair, the largest private fair in Washington and 10th largest in the U.S.

Located to the south of Milton and Edgewood and east of Parkland lies Puyallup. 19th-century farming communities that live and prosper in the 21st century are uncommon.

Puyallup is just such a place.  The town was platted in 1877 by Ezra Meeker, one of the early pioneers to settle in the area.  He became successful in hop farming (essential in brewing beer, as aficionados will understand) and, later, lost everything when crop blight swept the area.

Over a million visitors enjoy September strolls at the fairgrounds among displays, exhibitions, performances and, of course, rides ranging from tame to terrifying.  If you’ve never tried a genuine, old-timey wooden roller coaster that is long, loud and raucous, then bring a friend and give ‘er a try.  You’ll be glad you did.

The Puyallup River runs along the valley floor, offering rich alluvial soils for farming.  Puyallup itself, Sumner and Orting are the towns in the valley. Today, a great deal of development is found on the plateaus flanking the valley.

The south flank of the valley (“South Hill”) is rich with housing subdivisions, many of which offer terrific views of Mt. Rainier, the Valley and, in some cases, views to the northwest (toward Puget Sound and, in the distance, the Olympic Mountains).

You will find three bedroom homes in Puyallup starting in the $135,000 range and be going up to $500,000+. Four bedroom homes start in the $220,000 range with a lot of choice up to $325,000. Larger homes and prime locations will command price up to $950,000 and luxury estates will typically be priced over $1million.
